It gives me great pleasure to present myself as the new principal of Castlederg High School. A native of County Tyrone myself I am thrilled to be given the opportunity to lead such an outstanding school. It has been pure delight to meet the pupils who received their A Level, AS and GCSE results. I was astounded at the high performance of so many pupils and how so many pupils were so clear in their intention for future careers. I am very much looking forward to meeting all the pupils but especially our new year 8’s, who we will be extending a very warm welcome to as they join the Castlederg High School family.
A good school meets the needs of all pupils and I am completely dedicated to ensuring that every child receives the best possible educational experience. I am convinced of the
power of education to transform lives and its ability to give every child the best life chances possible. I also believe that we must focus on developing young people in every way – academic achievement of course is vital but we must focus on a holistic approach so that pupils have all the skills necessary for life and work in the 21st Century. Castlederg High School is an outstanding school in so many ways – high academic achievement, broad and vibrant extra curricular experiences and exceptional links with the community. The warmth of the pupils and staff is tangible and the school has a very welcoming ethos which provides an excellent environment for all pupils to flourish. It is my intention to build on this exceptional work and to take the school to the next level. Castlederg High School is very fortunate in having such an exceptional staff, teaching and non-teaching and a Board of Governors who are impressively committed to the progress of the school.
Our education system is under immense financial pressure currently and indeed this will be a challenge going forward as for all schools. However having met the staff, pupils, parents and governors of Castlederg High School it is clear that we will handle any pressures we encounter as we are so driven to ensuring the highest quality education possible. I pay tribute to the outgoing principal, Mrs Elaine Mc Kelvey for the excellent legacy she leaves and for her extreme kindness and support to me personally in the previous weeks. Castlederg High School is a shining star in the community – I am so privileged and fortunate to be given this important role and that with the support of the school community, I will lead to ensure that star continues to shine ever more brightly, now and into the future.
